Evert Hekkema – Simplex

Categories: ,

This elegant piece is one of the few compositions that my father, a jazz trumpeter, wrote. It has always been a favorite of mine. Of the original only recordings (trumpet, piano, bass & drums) were available – my father was not an avid reader and notating music was not needed. I wrote it out, made this version for saxophone solo, and played it for him when he was fatally ill during the summer of 2020. He liked it.

This is my tribute to Evert Hekkema (1945-2020). I hope it will performed by many!
